People strongly and impressively applauded Mr. Sopheakmonkol Sok, Co-Founder and CEO of Codingate Co., Ltd for his winning the prestigious award as Founder of the Year from the ASEAN Rice Bowl Start Up Awards-2017. The ASEAN Rice Bowl Startup Awards 2017 took place at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Ballroom on 13th December 2017.
On the stage while receiving the award, Mr. Sopheakmonkol Sok gave a speech inspiring the most that “We are not just focusing on our personal growth and It’s not just about the process and if the company had enough capital but also on people who are working with us.”
He told an amazing story leading Codingate to this point that “at that time, we wanted to start a venture with the students. However, without necessary tools such as computers, the students could not do the work. We didn’t know whether our venture would be possible. We started a campaign called Skills-Exchange-Laptop. We knew that people needed websites, so we planned to build websites without charging money if the customers were willing to buy us laptops, depending on the work that they wanted to be done.”
According to the chairman of the ASEAN Rice Bowl Startup Awards, Lilyana Latiff , the competition has been intense, with startups from sectors such as e-commerce, fin-tech, bio-tech, medical & health tech, social impact, and smart city solutions—all vying for the top prizes. For the previous years there were no nominations from Cambodia, Brunei and Laos but this year the three countries joined the competition with Cambodia and Brunei brought back home their own award.
